Cool Gardens 2020: Update & Winners Announced
April 3, 2020
Note: Due to the ever-evolving and uncertain future of the Covid 19 pandemic, Storefront Manitoba and the curators of Cool Gardens have come to the difficult decision to cancel Cool Gardens 2020. To ensure the safety of our staff, contractors, artists, volunteers, and visitors, the following projects will not be realized, but will join past winners on the Cool Gardens website at www.coolgardens.ca
We are pleased to announce the winners of Cool Gardens 2020 as follows:
Pipe Talks
By Alexander Semegen and Rajat Verma from Calgary, Alberta
This proposal integrates a series of playful two-way talking tubes which encourage dialogue between friends and strangers, emphasizing the value of the park as a sphere for communication and conversation.
Putt Putt Plaza
By Mike Light, Mark Johnson, and Tamara Marahj from Calgary, Alberta
The installation brings the joys of mini golf to the banks of the Red River. The cool, multi-toned blues of the putting green are meant to catch the eye of the visitor, asking them to slow down and reimagine the use of public space.
Storefront thanks all those who submitted to this year's contest. We are looking forward to Cool Gardens 2021, and to celebrating the outdoors again with all of you in the new year.
About Cool Gardens
Cool Gardens is a public garden, art, and architecture exhibition that offers a shift of sensation for the summer, using "cooling" as a general theme. The project brings together architects, designers, landscape architects, and artists to celebrate contemporary garden culture and the local landscape. Since its inception in 2015, more than 30 gardens have been exhibited around downtown Winnipeg and in Brandon, Manitoba.
Cool Gardens is made possible through the generous support of: Canada Council for the Arts, The Forks, La Maison des Artistes Visuels Francophones, the Manitoba Association of Architects, and the Manitoba Association of Landscape Architects.
