THE PROJECT
Central Park and its surrounding neighbourhood is one of the most ethnically diverse populations in Canada with new immigrants from more than fifty countries. The bold arrangement of design elements serves as a base for public art, social spaces, and both formal and informal programs. Central Park has transformed into a vibrant new urban playground.
JURY COMMENTS
Central Park’s greatest strength is its complex and varied spaces that have been artfully integrated into a multi-purpose park landscape. Subtle grade changes differentiate between paths and play areas. More pronounced landform changes announce the south entrance to the park. The fact that this park is serving an extremely diverse population speaks to the power of building community through collaboration, as well as the power of design intention and execution.
